Collecting and Buying Anime Stationery: Where to start?

I’ve always loved stationery. It used to be just notebooks. I have untouched notebooks I’ve had for years. Now it’s also tape and pens. One of the places I’m considering going on vacation next year is a place I’ve considered just because of how many cute stationery shops I’ve found there.

Mixing my two hobbies together is just natural. Bringing them to this blog is just natural. So today I’m going to naturally share my knowledge and share the best places to buy yourself some anime stationery.

Saki Zenkoku-hen – Kiyosumi & Himematsu Tape 咲-Saki-全国編 清澄高校&姫松高校 マスキングテープ

I took these pictures hastily when I first opened these in November and I have been meaning about writing about them since then. I think if I am able to stick with this, my latest endeavor to save this blog from it’s slow decline into nothingness, then pictures going forward will be much better.

I love stationary. I love hoarding notebooks and pens and stickers and most recently, tape! I love washi tape and fancy masking tape. Combining anime chara goods and stationary is just the rightest thing in the world.

So, with that said: let’s look at this cute Saki tape I bought before.

Mottainai Akihabara Flea Market Fang-tan's Japan Trip 2016: part three

The last Sunday before we went home, I decided to go to Akihabara alone to try and scope out some Itasha one last time. We had dinner plans in Shibuya at 6 so I didn’t expect to see many since primo-Itasha time seemed to be a little later on in the evening but luckily I did see a few.

In my bid to kill time I stumbled across this interesting little event. On the side of UDX was a flea market! It’s a shame that I was completely and desperately broke by this point because there was definitely some stuff I wanted to buy!

Eight Years Itch

[source]

Every goddamn year I think to my goddamn self “don’t be late posting on the anniversary” and every goddamn year I’m late.

Alright for an excuse, I had just gotten back from Japan when it happened. I thought about scheduling a post but nah. I’m just not that efficient.

Another year of almost giving up. I guess this thing is mostly dead anyways so if I do quit I won’t be formal about it. It’ll just end. Oh well.

Anyways, back to the Japan thing. I had a dang old blast and it sucks being back in stupid Canada but what can you do. I’m already excited to go back in two years. Wait for me, Museca!

I have a looooot of posts planned about the trip both to help other travellers and also ones that are just fun for me. I don’t have a timeframe on them though. I’m hoping to work on them this week since in lieu of a long weekend, I have a bunch of days off in the middle of the week. Such is life.

Regardless, they’ll probably be going for the rest of the year so I hope I have the motivation to do them and also people don’t get sick of them and/or think I’m really riding on the coattails of my vacation.

(I also changed the site theme back unfortunately. Though I liked the new cute and simple layout, it had some problems I’m just not ready to work on right now. Maybe one day!)

Loot from Mandarake Urban Mines Toiling in the Salt Mines, etc

So way back in March Mandarake launched Urban Mines. Their normal auction normally sells thing such a scripts from anime episodes or older anime cels. Stuff like that. The Urban Mines, however, is stuff that they would normally sell in the Mandarake stores proper but for various reasons can’t or won’t.

Better yet everything starts at 1 yen.

The creation of this lead to my (temporary) destruction as the situation spiraled more and more out of control. Addiction is a scary thing, kids.

#kirigen down (again)

For the next few days #kirigen will be down while I find a different web host. Hopefully for not much longer than it already has been but really, who knows. I actually had a new project for it though so I’ll do my best to get it going again.

12 Days of Anime: 12 – KUMA SHOCK

Yuri Kuma Arashi

Yuri Kuma Arashi was the perfect show for me. And yet… I just could not come to love it. Because despite everything… it lacked heart. It’s characters did not feel real and endearing to me. Though I was happy, and pained, to watch their tale, in the end the most important thing was them and they just fell flat for me.

But though Yuri Kuma may not be my AOTY, I think I’ll always remember it in high regards. After all, it would be the finale to my 12 Days if it wasn’t special in some way, right?

The last episode was… well, it made up for a lot of bad the show had done. There were lots of cliffhangers and twists that felt there for the sake of having cliffhangers and twists. Maybe it was because it was Ikuhara’s first 12 episode show that the pacing was so bad. Maybe with 24 episodes, my problems with characters would have gone away and the twists and turns wouldn’t have felt so forced.

But alas, we cannot change what is already done.

Yuri Kuma Arashi

Anyways, episode 12 features two major events. One is Kureha becoming a bear and joining Ginko in an absolutely beautiful scene where they kind of just ignore the haters so much they fuck off to gay heaven or something.

The second is my favourite scene in the entire series (and there was a lot of great lesbian bear storm action for me to eat up so this is a big thing to claim) where a rando, Ai Uchiko, rises above the hate surrounding her. She may become the evil they hunt next but she’s doing what she believes in.

Ai and Konomi

To the bear they’ve tortured and used, she offers her love. In the end, Kureha and Ginko have inspired at least one person (and at least set doubt into the hearts of some of the other girls) to change. To give up their hate and ignorance and embrace that which they don’t understand, even in the face of the danger their fellow humans may present.

That scene was beautiful to me. The whole episode is. Yuri Kuma Arashi is worth everything just for that final episode.

Please read my actual post about the episode where I go into detail about my feelings for it (as well as link to a lot more cohesively written pieces that illustrate why YKA hates yuri anime as much as I do and why it’s so great).

12 Days of Anime: 11 – What is a Hero?

I was hesitant to include Insight on my list but since I’ve already included one AOTY, why not, right?

Just like Crowds I have trouble thinking why this anime is so good and why I just love it. But in my heart I know that it’s good and great. And I did enjoy pretty much every episode, even when things got tense and tough.

Maybe that’s a part of what makes Gatchaman Crowds and Insight so good though. That it lingers in the back of your mind, remebering watching it and realizing how good it is while watching.

My favourite scene of Insight was when our heroes go toe to toe with Gelsadra near the end. It was obvious during the fight who it really was. It was such a fantastic detail having Gel’s movements be the same as who it really was. But it made it so much harder to watch.

That whole scene, during the reveal, with her commentary and hearing our beloved and precious hero face her punishment for not acting sooner, hearing her in pain and suffering was too raw and hard to watch. Which was the point, of course.

But it’s a scene that’ll stick with me for a long time.
