I had been a little disappointed at the beginning of the season despite knowing well enough there were still a lot of shows to wait for. This was one such show. I had been waiting for [C] most eagerly because it was noitaminA, original script, School Food Punishment was doing the ED, Iwasaki Taku is doing the OST and for good measure, the guy behind the scripts for Baccano and Durarara is behind the script for this one. SO things were looking pretty good. Now I expected things to go horribly awry. Something with such awesome components would surely end up terrible. And I was more afraid after the disaster that was Fractale. The first episode was pretty impressive (even if the main character wears the DOUCHIEST combination of cropped pants and pink (?) runners with no socks) but I am just glad I watched it before the first episode of Ano Hana.
Holy hell. Blown away. Just… just geez I don’t even know what to say. It isn’t that the plot is STELLAR AND REVOLUTIONIZING but the way it was handled and presented had me wanting to learn more about the other characters and their histories. Furthermore, once the ED started playing it just pulled on my heart, ripped it out and beat it against my desk without any mercy. I haven’t even had time to get emotionally invested in these characters and it already me want to bawww. It is also made me understand what people mean when they don’t like watching anime as it airs. I am dying for the second episode and now the wait will be killer. Excited for Madoka finale next week? More like excited for Ano Hana episode 2!! (okay I am still really excite about Madoka)
(Another thing that pleased me? Not dancing around Menma’s existence. I mean my theory was that it was going to be Kanon ’11 and she would be in a coma but NOPE I guess not.)
So we have two originally scripted noitaminA shows (one of which will probably be phenomenally better. SPOILER: it’s the one that looks like Toradora) so that will make this season interesting for me. Surprisingly, I’m really into Nichijou too. I watched it because of DAT OP and DOSE HIPS but so far it’s actually made me laugh a lot so I will probably hang on to this because watching it is so easy and energyless. Steins;Gate on the other hand… well that might require more ‘ambition’. Ano Hana is exactly what I need in that it looks cute, is fluid and still has a decent plot. While Steins;Gate isn’t terrible to look at, its going to move a lot slower and take forever to get where it’s going. Perhaps it would have made a better movie than a series? No, I think everything would make a better movie than a series.
