Fang’s Top 10 Touhou Remix Groups/Artists

I guess you could say this is the successor to the Top 80 that was posted a long while back. I had fun making it and while this one is different… maybe a Top 80 Remix list? Intriguing. Well, as follows is a ten 10 list of Fang’s favourites. I don’t expect anybody to agree with me. And people may disagree with me. I’m sure a lot more people would have Cool&Create on their list, amirite?

10.  TIE: IOSYS or Silver Forest
A tie for tenth. I tsuntsun over being a fan of IOSYS because (according to U.N Owen polls) like, 80% of western fans haven’t played the games. I was once apart of that group but it wasn’t entirely because of IOSYS although MSTPT was pretty awesome back then. But I must put IOSYS on the list for Flower of the Sun, 博麗神社町内会音頭, Artifical Children, and Miracle Hinacle. Silver Forest sometimes produced comical IOSYS-styled music but they have had some really great tracks on recent albums. Yet I find them bland and they blend in with other groups too easier. However, I have a fondness for them so they can make the list.

9. Yellow Zebra
I was reccommended this group because I wanted disco Touhou remixes. YZ did come through. I even got a Erementar Gerad op ‘Forever’ parody (is that the word?). Do you know how much want that is? I haven’t heard their c75 album but it has Hina’s theme on it, right? So… you know… that’s like a insta download for me. Fang loev Hina.

Yellow-Zebra – 東方輪衝歌~Moment of Impulse~ – I Get Around The Road

I wonder if it’s okay to put SH here. I mean, I never download their albums just for the hell of it. I’m not a big fan of Jazz and Sound Holic really is into that (i.e, Swing Holic). But I can’t deny that they do pop out awesome more often than not. The Side Story even brough Go On Being with Nana Takahashi who is an excellent vocalist. She’s one of my favourite things about SH, really. Maybe it’s because Optical Cellophane is so gosh darn catchy? Ka~pa~pa ka~pa~pa ka~pa~pa~~

7. MyonMyon
MyonMyon usually has a bunch of styles going for it. That’s what I like. I mean, most hare rockish metal. Something I don’t normally like but there’s something that I just like… hmmm… I know there is a lot of piano in their songs, right? Maybe it’s that? I mean metal on it’s own is metal. but metal plus something like a piano is just class.

6. Bitplane
I only recently started listening to Bitplane. Because a friend showed me a remix of China’s theme. It was awesome. I went on listening and acquired some more albums of theirs. Alot of the songs I heard beforehand had so much going on, it was just wonderful. Usually, I’m one that has to have vocals in a song. But not with this.

5. TIE: ION or Tenon
ION has produced one album. Just one. Well, it’s awesome. The U.N Owen remix is pretty popular over on the Loli Salad youtube channel. And why wouldn’t it be? Like ION, Tenon has released… like… one. Both are trance groups (please see MA.S ATTACK for my opinion on Touhou trance) but are still catchy. ION soars above Tenon, imo. But Tenon’s Sakura Nightmare (with ION’s Spiritual Spellers) was one of the first albums I heard when I became a touhoufag.

ION – Spiritual Spellers – U.N.オーエンは彼女なのか?+恋色マスタースパーク -Trance Mix-

4. Like A Rabbit
I wasn’t sure that this was a group. I only saw them doing crossover works. But oh was I wrong. I love piano. Love, love, love. As long as it isn’t too jazzy, then it’s just wonderful, see? And when I was going through a phase where I adored Keine’s theme I came across the DaWNBEAT the Moon album. Lemme tell you. A-w-e-s-o-m-e.

A trance group. Everybody knows that Touhou Trancecore is usually pretty lame. Buuut. MA.S is just awesome. I mean. I mean. There’s just something there, y’know? Something that doesn’t feel like normal trance something that feels Touhou-y. Here is Medi’s theme. Here is Hina’s theme. There’s something… just creepy about these songs! Don’t you think? Well, I’m still trying to get ahold of some albums. But MA.S is under appreciated, so it may be easier said than done. Well, the great people over at DS usually come through anyways.

2. Azure&Sands
I keep saying ‘Fang haet Jazz’ and yet my second spot goes to A&S? A&S has Jazz titled albums for pete’s sake! Ah well, I guess there are different kinds of jazz. I was just being oblivious. But when I heard Hina’s theme done by them. Well, I shat bricks. It was just unlike anything I’ve ever heard. Still is. Nothing more awesome, amirite? Also, they did a christmas album. A freaking christmas album.

1. =Neutral=
If you saw this list and have seen my c75 reviews, you might saw this coming. I love Neutral. Love, love, love, loooove! Nazz-can is always a favourite but there hasn’t been anything I haven’t loved from Neutral. I didn’t care for the accoustic album because accoustic isn’t my cup of tea (piano, ftw?) but I still swallowed it. With a smile. Darkness must be one of my favourite albums but their c75 Perfect Cherry Blossom comes in a close second. Want me to keep listing? Because they have a lot of great albums. A lot.

=NeutraL= – DARKNESS – 少女さとり ~ 3rd eye

Honourable Mentions: Innocent Key, UI-70,  Seventh Heaven Maxion, AlstroemeriaRecords

Well I’d have rated myonmyon higher.

But I’ll be grabbing a bit more of these NeutraL guys. Sounds nice.

The percussion in Neutral sounds great, even to my untrained ears. I’ll definitely have to check some of these out.

I know you hate touhou trancecore and jazz. But doesn’t REDALiCE deserve at least an honorable mention for taboo tears you up (melpo max)? Lol, that’s my fave in all touhou mixes. (Btw, I do play the games. And listen to the original music.)

I’ve actually grown fonder of both genres. If I did another version of this, they probably would though lately their Touhou albums have been lacking. Forlane Rei was enjoyable though.

    Halozy is good though, yes.
