It’s been awhile, hasn’t it? I usually let the Exit Trance release slip by me. I did check into it and that was only when the initial tracklist was up. So, as always, thanks to PINGAS for giving me a heads up (also, thanks to Lightchild who kept correcting me when I continued to go braindead).
Album Name: Exit Trance presents Speed Anime Trance Best 9
Artist/Circle: EXIT TRANCE (Quake Records)

- only my railgun
I didn’t think the Index songs were that well done and even if I really don’t like Railgun (the show, not the song. I like the song) I had high hopes for this. I was disappointed at first but after giving it a few listens it grew on me. The song itself is really good. It stands out in a lot of parts but I didn’t think MAKI was strong enough for these vocals so that was a little annoying. But really, she’s not bad.
A Darker than Black OP if I’m correct. I sort of like not knowing the song before I hear the ET remix so that I don’t feel biased towards it and judge based on my impression of the original song. I get the feeling the original of this wasn’t as pop-y as this is? Just the impression I got from a song that should be in DtB, not that I’ve really watched the show. I don’t recognize the vocalist so she might be new but I just have a terrible memory so don’t hold me to that. She, mi-mi, appears quite a bit on this album. Who else appears quite a bit on this album?…
CAMRY! My favourite Exit Trance vocalist who has been only showing rare appearances lately has four tracks on this album! That made me excited to hear this. Latte, whom I venomously hated upon in 8, has no tracks. Which makes me feel a bit bad for ripping on her so much before. Anyways, perhaps I haven’t listen to any CAMRY in awhile but I don’t recall her being so… loli sounding. Didn’t they have a specific vocalist who used to do the loli sounding songs way back at the beginning? Well, I’m not complaining. I was just surprised when I read that she was the vocalist. Song wise? I’m a little disappointed. The song, imo, is the best part of the original Renai Circulation (from Bakemonogatari) was the song and it isn’t as prominent as the vocals here. The vocals match the original pretty well though so I guess them being the spotlight is fine.
Well I was going to say I didn’t know what this was from based on the title and expecting it to be from a new show. It’s actually from Eureka Seven. A song I forgot I loved, at that! Which made this even more pleasant for me. R.Cena is pretty bland here but she does sound quite sweet at some parts. She doesn’t really stand up against the music though so it comes out a little plain. The song is pretty nice with a mix of the chorus in the back (which sort of helped her stand out a bit more) and a very matching plain beat.
- Dear My Friend
Well they put lots of Index songs out on one album so I’m not surprised they would do the same with Railgun. YURiE is the vocalist and as usually she’s pretty strong sounding whereas the other vocalists come off as too quiet (compared to her anyways). The chorus stands out and beside the occasional piano mixed in, I can’t say anything else about the song.
From White Album I would guess. But I really don’t know. KANA is the vocalist and she’s a little stronger sounding than I recall. The whole thing doesn’t stand out for me but KANA does make the song enjoyable. But even so, something about this song annoys me for some reason. Maybe I should check out the original to see if it’s that or this version that is bugging me…
- Future Stream
MAKI is a lot better here. This is much better suited to her talents. Song itself is good too but that is because it is is by veteran Acid=Stone Valley. This song is generally cute and sweet sounding.
True Tears OP this time. Which is weird, I thought we’d already done this. Hmmm, well okay. CAMRY this time around and she does a great job. She sounds less lolified but still fitting for the sweet nature of the song (okay, I guess you could say that).
- PHANTOM MINDS
Ugh, I didn’t like the original (I’m not a big Nana fan aside from her earlier Nanoha stuff) and I don’t really like this one. KANA does a fine job, her voice is nice and clear and stands above the music like the other vocalists should but the music itself is more or less boring. There’s stuff going of course but I really couldn’t enjoy it. Those who originally liked the song might find more enjoyment in it though.
Not a clue where this is from but I did hear a lot of ‘nyah~’s so take from that what you will. Pretty cut loli-sounding vocals and the song is a sweet, speedy match. Producing is one DJ Kyon-C. Didn’t recognize the name so maybe they’re new? Well, they did a good job so I guess that’s what is important.
- 時の向こう 幻の空
At first I was like ‘hmmm where have I heard this before?’ but then I was like ‘asdfghareyouserious’. But in a good way. Cause I didn’t see this coming. Okay, so maybe I didn’t check the tracklist before I picked this up but still. Vocals are nice. They don’t match the emotion in the original but the song makes up for it by giving the song a new edge and direction. It seems to change the mood of it almost. Another unknown producer to me, this time someone named Rev.
Yeah, wasn’t Ma15 the loli vocalist? Well she sounds it here. Don’t recognize the song, it’s clearly not my cup of tea. The song is pretty fun but the vocals don’t really stand out for me.
This sounds strangely familiar despite not being something I would normally listen to. The song is the standard fare but the vocals, a combined mix of mi-mi and CAMRY steal the show anyways. They do make a pretty good mix. Now I need to find out where I might have heard this…
Magic Number from Kobato (why did I recognize that straight away OTL) featuring great vocals by MAKI and a vs with Hommarju and MK. The result is pretty interesting. Perhaps not fitting to the song but interesting nonetheless. MAKI is perfect for this song and, dare I say, I might prefer her vocals to the original?
- JUSTICE of LIGHT
Oh YURiE I am disappoint. The intro was great but then the vocals made the whole song go :/. Sure, the vocals in the original (when compared to the song) are nothing to write home about but still! Something here is just not right.
- Baby Universe Day
Looks like I was mistaken, Latte does participate in this track. She’s paired up with mi-mi but still better than nothing. The vocals aren’t what impress me here. It’s the actual song. I’d love for them to release this one on their next instrumental set but I don’t see that happening. It’s even newcomer DJ Kyon-C who has managed to wow me so! Really, the song just sounds cool. I don’t know how to explain it.
CAMRY and MAKI pair up here. They make a better match than Latte and mi-mi, I think. These two compliment each other nicely. Song is nothing special though. I believe this is an ED to Kampfer.
HNNNNNGGGHHH. I started dying the moment I heard those tell tale notes at the beginning. Thankfully they put the loli champ, Ma15, on this one. I’d have been insulted if they didn’t! MAKI goes good with her too. MAKI just is compatible with anyone. Song is as cute as the original, perhaps even cuter. PERHAPS EVEN CUTER.
- light prayer
From one of the Eden of the East movies? I haven’t seen them so I’m only guessing. The vocals don’t really impress me but the song does. I sounds great and adds a lot of life to an otherwise slower, plainer song.
Damned if I can remember the title of the show this is from. All I know is that it is originally by Kalafina. Which means this song is pretty perfect for YURiE. She does much better than she has on the rest of the album. The song itself is interesting too. That was my probably with the original, it bored me. This fixes that in every way.
Fang’s Rating: 9/10 (song selection could have been a little better but no real song is absolutely awful)
