You might say (or you might not, I don’t care), “Fang-tan, how can you listen to so much miko?” and I’d respond: “It’s all about the flavours”.
Album Name: Mavis
Artist/Circle: Alternative Ending
Release Date: Comiket 78
- Moment When…
What I like about the Alternative Ending (miko’s own solo circle) albums is that it’s a different side of miko. When she does IOSYS stuff (and even just ALBATROSICKS), she always plays the part of a cute sounding moe vocalist but by her own design, she can do songs that sound like this. Slower and a little more serious (yet sweet) sounding. And it sounds so good. Well, I know a lot of people who hate the AE albums so maybe it’s just me.
- Last Spring
This one is a little underwhelming. It starts off with some nice piano but there isn’t much to carry the song. It’s just bland and the chorus doesn’t really do it for me. The title does seem fitting though.
- Promised Road
I really like this one. Like I said, I like when miko gets to flex her muscle and try something new. I guess she feels the same way or why produce this album, eh? The background vocals mixed with miko’s soft vocals against the quiet song are nice but it’s even better when the song picks up and gets louder so it feels way more intense. And that’s really what I love about a song: intensity. If it has that, then we’re golden.
Sounded like it would be another piano centric track but was tricky. It sounds familliar like another artists signature taste but I can’t quite figure out which one. Still, miko pulls it off greatly. I used to complain that miko’s voice was ‘too cutesy’ but in this sort of track you can’t even tell. Although for me, I stopped caring/noticing a long time ago. Would I go this far if I didn’t really love miko and her voice?
- Beyond Reach
Wowow the violin at the beginning was like track four in that it felt like someone else but I couldn’t figure out who. Well this one was really nice sounding too (the whole album is a really high quality) but it doesn’t really stand out. The chorus was pretty catchy though.
- Last Cherryblossom
A nice slower, oriental sounding piece. It’s a little slow at first but when it picked up it sounded really great. It also sounded at it’s best when it got more quiet near the end. But I actually felt this song was a little repetitive. Eh, maybe I’m just getting tired of these few songs that sound the same.
At first I was like: “pfft, this is the title song?” but then I was like: (ﾟ⊿ﾟ). It doesn’t sound like much at first but once the background-Shikata-esque-chanting kicks in and when she’s singing along side that, it sounds a lot less boring. The parts where she’s alone aren’t as interesting but yeah. It’s almost kind of sad when the background vocals sound better than the actual vocals. Morrigan (of WAVE) was the background/chanting vocals in this one, I do believe. That explains a lot.
