Album Name: Exit Trance presents Speed Anime Trance Best 15
Artist/Circle: EXIT TRANCE (Quake Records)
Release Date: 04/04/2012
Ryu*? It seems like it’s been forever since he’s appeared on one of these. mi-mi and R.Cena are the vocalists and I swear to god these two have caused me trouble before. But you know I think I say that every album and it doesn’t matter who is accompanying mi-mi. Someone here just lacks the energy required for this song. It’s a little offputting at first but it doesn’t actually sound that bad.
Remember when Hommarju made the Umineko songs into trancecore remixes for some reason? You must, it’s the thing I refer to whenever something is terrible and we need to know just how bad it is. Hommarju isn’t the culprit here. I’ll never understand the need to do songs, like the Umineko ones and this one, that don’t really require remixes like this. Or why does Exit Trance do it and suck at it? I’ve heard great remixes of this song. kinoto I’m disappoint. Actually I don’t remember anything kinoto has done before. R.Cena does a fantastic job here though. (And hey, it still isn’t as bad as the Umineko ones)
- BLOOD TELLER
Oh but here is Hommarju. I guess kinoto’s song at least had some parts that sounded decent enough. The vocalist, mamiko, doesn’t match the song at all so when she isn’t singing it isn’t that bad but otherwise it’s really unfitting.
- ROCK OVER JAPAN
When I first saw all these Penguindrum songs I knew Hommarju would be the one to do them. I was surprised and pleased when I saw MK was doing one because MK! MK is one of my favourites. The song is a little boring and that’s disappointing but the actual problem is with the vocalists. R.cena (again) and si-na (who I think I listed as si-nai before on 12 but I don’t think she shows up that much so no big deal I guess).
- High Powered
A nice break from Hommarju as Dizzi Mystica finally gets a track. Vocalists are mi-mi and JJ. They aren’t that bad. As far as grating vocals go, there have been way worse. I don’t think they make a particularly nice combo but again, you could do much worse. (It would probably involve mi-mi still though)
Booing Day too? They’ve been gone for awhile too, right? I thought maybe it was another newbie vocalist here but I was really surprised to find out it was Latte. I used to hate Latte and I was actually just wondering why. I think this answered my question.
405 and I have a rocky relationship but she does a really good Etsuko Yakushimaru. It could almost pass for the original vocals. Almost. MK is doing the song but I really wish he would have done Nornir instead. This one just isn’t as fun as I think Nornir could have been, had he been the one doing it.
- 君の神話 ～ アクエリオン第二章
R. Cena again? I’d need to consult my little chart of the generations of vocalists but she used to be really minor. Well most of the new vocalists suck so whatever I guess. The original isn’t that impressive so that is a pretty boring track, despite Dizzi Mystica being behind it. Despite that a lot of it still sounds good. Just the chorus is awful.
Oh YURiE. At least you still get a couple tracks. Though I really don’t like them that much. Her vocals bother me a lot but they aren’t that bad here.
- FLY AWAY
Two Icon tracks in a row! Very nicely done. Vocalist is puchi but I’m sure they could have found someone more appropriate. Her voice doesn’t match at all.
I was really surprised to see this one on here. I love the ED from Chihayafuru but the OP is really good too. TAKANORI’s vocals really suit the song. I am a little disappointed it’s slower then I had expected. Still, it’s Icon and Icon is good.
- I’LL BELIEVE
Wow I wasn’t expecting this. KANA returns and the little bit of english that she does is a bit engrishy but she’s nice and clear so it’s only a minor inconvenience. TAKANORI provides backup vocals. Even Dizzi Mystica seemed to put a little more effort in than usual. Probably one of my favourite songs done from an SATB release in awhile.
- SKY’S THE LIMIT
Or so I said until I heard this one. YURiE and MFMW team together and I recall not liking MFMW’s track on 14 and YURiE annoys me a lot of time but they do really work well together. Dizzi Mystica again but the track is really laid back and jazzy more than anything.
- COOLISH WALK
mi-mi and R.Cena return for the second Working!! song and sound a lot better. mi-mi gets to do more so I think that’s why she sounds better.
A third Icon track? Yes, thank you. But puchi is our vocalist (a long with TAKANORI though). puchi just isn’t that good, really. The very small parts where Takanori is the only vocalist do sound good though.
Booing Day returns! Our vocalist is yumemi who is fine, I guess. Her voice wavers a lot but other than that she’s perfectly fine. She actually sounds really familiar here. I’m sure I’ve heard her somewhere else outside of SATB.
MK and KANA? This album has been good to me. KANA is fantastic even if she doesn’t sound quite in tempo with the music. I complain about that a lot but I’ll let it slide with her.
I said Nahoko didn’t sound energetic enough when she did Connect but this song seems to suit her much better. The problem here, like with track 17, is just that MK’s song doesn’t really match up with the vocals. Which is a shame because Nahoko really does sound good here.
- ENDLESS STORY
Since I actually do like this song, I’m glad Latte didn’t screw it up. She really does sound so different from track six. She lacks the energy or emotion I would have liked for the chorus here but it still sounds decent.
405 doesn’t sound quite as good here as she did in her first Penguindrum track but she still very Etsuko-y. I’m very disappointed Hommarju didn’t even try to do something with the part around 2:50. I thought for sure he would have experimented with that part but it was almost identical to the original.
A big improvement over the last album. Song selection choices are still questionable but at least they aren’t downright terrible this time around. It was nice seeing Ryu* again though it’s regrettable he didn’t chose a more ambitious track. All of the MK and Icon was nice too. Though it wasn’t a terrible album, it’s still pretty forgettable (aside from the two Dizzi Mystica tracks in the middle).
