Musou Kakyou: A Summer Day’s Dream #2

Mostly a post about the headcanon voices of girls in frilly dresses and silly hats.

As always the thing that leaves me in awe about this project is the cast list. It’s very… prolific.
Mai Nakahara as Reimu
Miyuki Sawashiro as Marisa
Rie Tanaka as Sakuya
Ayumi Fujimura as Aya
Aoi Yuuki as Youmu
Aki Toyosaki as Suika
Mikako Takahashi as Patchouli
Ayumi Tsuji as Remilia
Sayuri Yahagi as Reisen
Yuka Iguchi as Tewi
Hitomi Nabatame as Eirin
Natsumi Takamori as Kaguya
Ai Kayano as Yuyuko

So, there are some pretty well known seiyuus here. My favourite, of course, being Miyuki Sawashiro. I like the oppurnuity to point out Sawashiro has also voiced Sakuya and Patchouli in a doujin game and drama CD, respectively. I think she suits Sakuya best while Kitamura Eri suited Marisa far, far better. HOWEVER Sakuya was voiced by  Asami Imai on that CD and that is another fantastic match, I think. Said album also included Ryoko Shintani as Hong,  Mariya Ise as Flandre, Aki Toyosaki as Remilia, and Haruka Tomatsu as Reimu. Well I’ve gotten way off track.

I haven’t watched the first episode since it was first subbed so I can’t really compare the two to see if it’s improved any. It’s still the same style though. Minimal shading so everything has a flat colour look to it. It makes the lighting seem off. Youmu gets some very cute expressions though. Back on the subject of seiyuus, as much as I do like Aoi Yuuki I really imagine Yomu with more boyish sounding voice. KitaEri would have been a nice choice for her, I think. It probably wouldn’t have been that hard to get her to do it since she already, as I said, did a Touhou drama CD with a lot of the same seiyuu here.

Though I still disagree with Remi’s voice, she was really cute in this episode. Her expressions and actions were very childish and while I didn’t think that would suit her, it really was kind of cute. Still, I think she was portrayed too immaturely.

It’s a bit disappointing this episode isn’t really action or drama. The scene at the beginning with Yuyuko talking to Yukari was really nicely done and the action scenes aren’t full of high intensity like they should be, they’re still pretty cool. Unfortunately, the only fight in the episode gets cut off. There’s also Alice doing weird Alice things and we have to wait to find out what she’s up to still.

I saw people complaining that it didn’t seem Touhou-y enough. Granted, when I think of an incident in the Touhou series, I imagine more action. But who are we kidding? An actual anime series and Touhou itself would have copulous amounts of girls sitting around being cute. Except they’d be eating much more, probably. Though the action scenes would hopefully be a lot more intense.

Tewi and Reisen were the best thing in the episode though. Both were done really well and provided me with a few laughs. Also, you can see Keine in one shot and though she and Mokou would really play no part I’m disappointed they really didn’t appear.

I did enjoy this as much as could be expected for me. It’ll probably be another long wait for the third episode. Hopefully they don’t make us wait for the continuation of the Reisen/Youmu fight and then pull a “just kidding~” and have someone interrupt it before it even starts. Though I guess for an independent group that is animating a full episode on their own, expecting too much of an action sequence is a bit much.

I haven’t seen the first episode of this so I can’t comment on it but I DON’T THINK PROFILLIC IS A WORD and even if it was prolific I don’t think it means what you think it means
