Album Name: Exit Trance presents Speed Anime Trance Best 21
Artist/Circle: EXIT TUNES (Quake Records)
Release Date: 10/01/2014
- シドニア/ Hommarju feat.R.Cena
Well to be fair I’m not a huge fan of Angela’s vocals in the original either. Though I like these vocals better (I didn’t until I compared them and found I liked Angela’s a lot less) they still lack prescence. Like living up to your title as Anime Trance here because I’ve never had a song so easy to tune out and let play in the background as a delightful thump thump thump in the back of my mind without thinking about it. To be honest I hadn’t been pleased with this but I like it a lot more after listening to the original. Haha that’s still not good for either this version or the original though.
- それは僕たちの奇跡 / Ryu☆ feat.Prim
Not going to go back and edit the Love Live remix post because there is no point. Is this really Prim? Prim who is MAKI? Because, and while I get that’s the point, it sounds nothing like MAKI. And by that I mean good. She absolutely butchers that first held note. The chorus isn’t as bad but I mean you can only go up from that awful beginning. Song itself is fun enough though.
- DIVINE INTERVENTION / plazma feat.maburu-choko
Based plazma here to save the day. A track where the vocals aren’t bland and kinda droning like the last two? A track where the song itself is cool and different? Yeah, awesome. The only problem I have is that the good song and the good vocals don’t really… match. They seem like two separate things smushed together and it doesn’t sound the best. Which is a shame. (And also if you were going to do a Witch Craft Works song, why not the superior ED?)
- RISING HOPE / feat.猫体質
I couldn’t do this without you plazma. You’re the only thing giving me strength in this dank hole of dankness. Vocals are once again crisp and fresh (unlike one and two, again). Song is absolutely on point too. It’s exciting and different and at least this time it matches up to the vocals (and uses them in neat ways!) unlike track three.
- TILL THE END / Dizzi Mystica feat.hideki+LTT
This sounded like a track from the Space Dandy OST at first, haha. For a DM song, it was surprisingly good. The song itself had all kinds of things going on and was really exciting. Though male vocals have never been my favourite, they were top notch here. Avoiding the problem of the first two tracks and sounding absolutely great together.
- 彼女がフラグを立てる理由 / Booing Day feat.si-na+maburu-choko
maburu-choko is really good. I really like her. Looking back at older posts, I always seem to forget that. si-na is… well, si-na. She’s definitely the weaker of the two. Song itself isn’t bad but it’s not like they had much to work with, let’s be real.
- 夕暮れハッピーゴー / MK feat.Haruka+maburu-choko
Listen, put maburu-choko on every track. I see nothing wrong with this. She’s the best you got right now. These two (unlike the past track) sound great together. The song itself is equally as nice and sounds pretty good. Thanks for not letting me down, MK.
- オラシオン / Booing Day feat.SAYURI
A release with a garbage track list always puts me in a bad mood so boring tracks like this get on my nerves, even if they aren’t that bad. Booing Day delivers another upbeat and enjoyable song while SAYURI’s vocals… they actually grew on me. When I saw her name I expected to hate them immediately but she actually sounded rather charming.
- 花咲く☆最強レジェンドDAYS/ Dizzi Mystica feat.R.Cena+KANA
After R.Cena’s last disappointing track, I was worried but this track is all around surprising amounts of fun. The switch between cutesy, rapid vocals and their more mature sounding ones is really nice. Track itself matches and is fast and bubbly along with them.
- CHARMING DO! / Hommarju feat.si-na
I guess I give Hommarju points for trying, yeah? It’s kind of like track three where the vocals don’t match up with the song again. Not to mention that si-na can’t pull off the sound SAYURI did in track eight and she just kind of sounds grating.
- 純粋なフジュンブツ / Booing Day feat.405+さつき
SATB 22 turned out to be a real decent release for Booing Day, huh? They’re not stellar but they’ve all managed to avoid sounding painfully average. Vocals aren’t bad this time around but they aren’t the best duo we’ve had and I kind of have trouble pinpointing who it is that has the weaker of the two voices and kinda brings it down for me. Again, they’re working with a subpar original song too so I guess there’s only so much you can do (like pick better songs).
- DARAKENA / MARS feat. mai
Still better than the actual song. I can’t stand the Chaika opening for being arranged the way it is. The song itself is just generic. I don’t remember the vocals well. The vocals here aren’t that bad but they don’t really do well to stand out and there are some notes she has to hold that just don’t sound that great. Song itself done by MARS has an interesting angle to it but still fails in comparison to even the Booing Day tracks prior.
- BEAUTIFUL WORLD / MK feat. Natsuhi
MAN. What a surprise this was. Speaking of openings I don’t like, hey? I heard this track first and it was driving me nuts that I couldn’t tell where it was from because it was clearly from a show I had watched. It was Soreseka! I didn’t like the opening (nothing against the song) so I had avoided it mostly and hadn’t even listened to the full version of the single. I was still so surprised they included it. Natsuhi’s vocals sound a lot like the original (as I remember it) but unfortunately MK’s song doesn’t quite match her vocals for me? Her vocals are still following the original too closely while MK is doing something completely different and it just clashes, which is a shame. Extending the small piano bits would have been nice too.
- BE AS ONE / plazma feat.桜井三郎+Bavil
Based plazma returns with another male vocal track that is definitely inferior to track five. The vocalists just don’t sound good at all to me. One isn’t all that bad but the other just sounds really aamateurish As a duo though, I guess they kinda sound good. But separately not so much.
- 掌-SHOW- / Hommarju feat.KANA
Hommarju is so all over the place this album. Like his last track, the vocals still feel like a separate entity that don’t match the song at all. Which is a shame because KANA sounds really good.
- イマジネーション / Dizzi Mystica feat.Bavil
One of the vocalists from fourteen returns and he doesn’t sound all that bad though I suspect he was the weaker of the two in that duo because the vocals still don’t work for me here. Chorus isn’t that bad, I guess.
- TRUST IN YOU/ Flash back Dominant feat.Latte+puchi
Huh, there was a lack of Latte this time around, huh? Well no matter. She and puchi sound pretty decent together. They actually sound better seperately though, which is strange. I guess they just don’t lend well to each other at the same time. Song itself had a certain something to it that I can’t put my finger on but really enjoyed too.
I dreaded this but I guess it turned out better than expected? Barely? I’ve been doing this for 22 albums. I don’t even know why I’ve held on this long. It’s like a masochistic duty because like I’ve spent seven years doing this and I’m not going to quit before Exit Tunes does.
I’m gonna go ahead and say that even the best tracks on this album are only decent. As always, the poor tracklist and choice of songs takes away a lot for me.
maburu-choko was fantastic and may be my favourite new regular vocalist. Hopefully that doesn’t jinx it and she doesn’t appear much or at all on the next one or something awful like that.
