Blogging about anime is hard and I don’t even like doing it any more. Wow though. It really has been a long time since I did a post like this.
Cross Ange was an awful terrible show and if someone tells you the opposite in earnest, please run away. However it is incredibly entertaining if you need to watch a trainwreck that just never stops crashing and exploding.
This show manages to pull twist after twist, each more stupid than the last. Frequently gross, constantly bad, this show was a goddamn hoot to watch and I sometimes miss the spectacle of it all. Truly, I’ve never watched something that is so awful and yet never boring. Lots of times watching bad shows because they are bad (like World Break) gets boring quickly but not with this.
Goddamn Cross Ange. You’re the best at being the absolute worst and I love you for it.
It was complete chance that this followed the Maria entry on this list. Truly.
Anna Nishikinomiya is one of my favourite characters this year by a goddamn mile. Shimoneta was a lot more clever (and raunchy) than I could have possibly imagined and Anna was an interesting villain to be sure. Though, that isn’t to say she was villainous because she was so thirsty that she’d break his goddamn dick off if it meant she could have it but rather that she was constantly getting in the way of their plans (and uh, threatened to kill one of them w/e).
I found her over the top sexuality and lust to be really interesting, even if it was played for laughs. The “for humour” aspect is especially egregious when we dismiss the fact that she was still trying to rape him but since it was female on male, it’s just hilarious rather than awful. But all that godawfulness aside, her Dr. Jekyll and incredibly horny Mr.Hyde scenario was a surprising factor of the show that I would have never guessed from just the opening and previews of the show.
Like the cookie thing? Never have I heard that Boku no Pico yooooooo’d so hard in my goddamn life. That is some next level shit right there.
I never thought we’d get a second season of this in the first place but with the tragic passing of Miyu Matsuki, Anna’s voice actor, I hope that we never do. It’s a shame one of her final roles was such a horrible and fantastic character but Anna stands out because of her amazing voice work so I’m grateful that she did such a great job.
We’ll miss you, Miyu Matsuki. Don’t know how they’ll do the Tales of Zestiria anime without you. :(
Cross Ange is amazing. No, it’s not good. Don’t even think for a second that I think it’s good. If you sit there and think Cross Ange is a good show and not ridiculously stupid garbage, you’re probably a huge gross tool.
But Cross Ange is amazing. Once I started watching I couldn’t stop because, my lord, it’s just so stupid. It’s impossibly stupid. It’s so stupid that you can’t be mad at it for being stupid because you’re akncolwedging that it’s dumb and you continue and what do you get? You get constantly rewarded because the show just outdoes itself over and over and over and is just so consistently stupid and ridiculous that it’s amazing.
I can’t call it a trainwreck because it’s like the train was never on the tracks to begin with. They finished making the train and then someone activated this and the train just flew off into space.
Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii is corny, silly and I still can’t believe it’s airing in this day and age and I’ll say that every time I talk about this show. Still, I love it to pieces. And I was so excited for this episode. So why did I end up feeling so disappointed at the end?
The preview showed us this Libra lookin guy and Nike and you knew it was ripe for misunderstanding and it wouldn’t go very far but MAN I didn’t expect it to spiral out of control like it did. Nike does Ouran Chapter 9 bit (is attempted rape/sexual assault with no intention to go through to teach the female a lesson but she sees through them a common thing in shoujo or what? Because that’s hella gross guys) where Kyoya gets Haruhi on the bed but Haruhi calls him out. Nike calls out Bard after he gets her on the bed and immediately after Livi shows up but instead of a comical reaction like Tamaki, he flips the hell out and turns into the biggest douchelord of the century.
Though he had warned her, she had done nothing of fault and to mistrust her so easily is ehhhhh. I have a feeling they’ll be like “oh, he was just bluffing” and it was an act or she’ll forgive him when he see’s he was in the wrong but like LOOK:
How am I supposed to forgive the way he’s acting? Threatening her with something so damned serious like that? We may have reached the point where we see he’s still not a normal adjusted person and has some serious problems and if this show holds up, they can work it out and stay together and move past this IF DONE RIGHT. And sure we don’t know his history with Bard but like goddamn that doesn’t mean take it out on the one person he does like. Though I guess he could have been afraid of losing her to him. So be an asshole. That” totally help.
It’s going to take a lot of grovelling and repentance on Livi’s sake for me to possibly accept the goofiness from the beginning of the episode again. If they just wash over this incident like it was nothing, I’m going to be pissed. Though it’s hard to ignore Livi saying he’s gonna torture his uncle to death and all. But I would still hope Nike is mad for her sake. That his mistrusted her and turned on her so easily.
So this stupid show that I ended up loving has left a bad taste in my mouth but I think that’s entirely the point. Whether or not it can redeem itself and make me continue to love and enjoy it is up in the air right now but I sure am rooting for it.
